Charting A Path to the Future

September 27, 2018

The meeting was called to order by President Pam Nolan. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Dick Morton and Lynn Fonfara gave the invocation. Kiwanis mission was recited. Members attending were: Pam Nolan, Barbara Rollison, Peg and Jim Morton, Lt. Gov. Margaret Williams and Gary Williams, Dick Morton,Judy and Clark Jones, Lynn Fonfara, Wanda Phillips, George Felix, and Nancy Reynolds. Guest: Larry Fluty, Lt. Gov. for District 8 2018-2019 and Audrey Strehan who will be moving her membership to our club from the Dunnellon club.

Installation of New Officers and Retirement of Previous Officers

Receiving of Certificates of Recognition were Gary Williams for his excellent handling of our annual Field Day event and assistance with other projects and James Morton for continuing service to our club with many events. Barbara Rollison was recognized as Kiwanian of the Year for her outstanding service as Treasurer (for 10 years) and special assistance to our president.

Retiring Board of Directors is Dana Fields. Retiring officers are: Pam Nolan, Peg Morton, Barbara Rollison and Nancy Reynolds.

Installed Officers: Peg Morton, President; Clark Jones, President Elect; Lynn Fonfara, Secretary; James Morton, Treasurer.

Newly installed Board of Directors: Judy Clark, Barbara Rollison, Gary Williams, Nancy Reynolds. Past President: Pam Nolan was presented a plaque recognizing her service as president this year.

Please submit your dues ($150).

Notes from September 20

Charting  A Path to the Future

September 20, 2018

The meeting was called to order by President Pam Nolan.  Pledge of Allegiance was led by George Felix and Lynn Fonfara gave the invocation.  Kiwanis mission was recited.  Members attending were:  Pam Nolan, Barbara Rollison, Peg and Jim Morton,  Lt. Gov. Margaret Williams and Gary Williams, Dick Morton, Kathy McAvey. Judy and Clark Jones, Lynn Fonfara, Wanda Phillips, George Felix, and Nancy Reynolds. Guest:  George Rusaw.

Program:  George Rusaw from Habitat for Humanity spoke about the Habitat organization.  In Citrus County they have provided homes for 175 families.  Families must qualify and give 500 hours of service in the building of the home.  The Habitat organization is basically 4 businesses:  real estate, mortgage, building and the Restore.

Properties are generally donated for the homes and there are certain floor plans available.  Go visit the Restore to help them out!

Old Business:   Bowling:   Key Club members from LHS and CRHS came to the first bowling session.   The Dragon Boat Festival coincides with a bowling date, but we will divide up our services on that day (Nov. 10). 

Diaper Drive:    Barbara donated 70 diapers last week.  Nancy knows families that need sizes 1-6 for girls as well as pull-ups.

Bunco is tomorrow night.  Please arrive at 6 p.m.  Members will pay $15 also and play.  Ads have appeared in the newspaper and we have spread the word.  Please bring a dessert to be supplied for donations (cookies, brownies, easy to handle foods).

New Business:  Installation next week!  Meet at The Plantation Inn. (One more week as Sec. for me!)

September 13 2018 meeting notes

September 13, 2018

The meeting was called to order by President Pam Nolan. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Gary Williams and Lynn Fonfara gave the invocation. Kiwanis mission was recited. Members attending were: Pam Nolan, Peg and Jim Morton, Lt. Gov. Margaret Williams and Gary Williams, Judy and Clark Jones, Lynn Fonfara, Wanda Phillips, Mary Smallwood, George Felix, and Nancy Reynolds.

Old Business: Bowling: Begins this Sat. (9/15). Bowling starts at 12:30. You may want to be there a bit earlier as there are some changes and being the first meeting, there may be some adjusting to the routine. There are 80 bowlers.

Service Learning Programs (SLPs) Key Club: LHS meets on Fri. this week. They will be participating in Coastal Cleanup. CRHS will be having a pizza party fo new members today. We will “pass the hat” to help them fund the party. They need to get in their summer reports.
Aktion Club: Bowling Sat. Will be in conjunction with our Action Club. Instead of meetings held on a separate date, the meetings will be at bowling. Ellie from the Dunnellon club has informed us that the two people who were supposed to continue sponsoring their Aktion Club will now be unable to do that. We will try to find a community member who will serve as sponsor for the club so they may continue. Mike Pontius will join transfer to our club from the Dunnellon Club.

Boys and Girls Club: Jim has talked to Travis Anderson and the club needs 24 bicycles. We will help as much as we can. We estimate the cost of each bike (repairs, etc.) and helmets to be $75. If you can gain donations or funds it would be helpful. Please ask friends and neighbors, church, clubs if they can donate a bike or money. Lynn will advertise on “Next Door” for donations. Bike sizes needed are for children ages 6-9 or 10-13 ( 20” or 24-26”). A motion was made by Nancy R. To designate $100 of the GAL money collected to GAL Christmas gifts and excess funds in that account to the bicycles for Boys and Girls Club. The motion was seconded by Peg M. and passed.

Division News: Margaret reported on the new Land 0f Lakes Club. It will be in our division but sponsored by Division 12.
RIF Margaret reported that she will try to set up an October date at Homosassa Elementary. She has Halloween books to donate.

BUNCO: Judy is collecting chocolate peanuts and candy corn for the Bunco treats. Various members have contributed door prizes or special prizes. Lynn has advertised in Chronicle. Posters have been placed. Jim has signs ready.

New Business: Homosassa Park: Terry Green will speak at the Oct. 4 meeting regarding plans for the park. If possible, we would like to participate in the project if it meets Kiwanis guidelines.

The meeting was called to order by President Pam Nolan. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Wanda Phillips and Peg Morton gave the invocation. Kiwanis mission was recited. Members attending were: Pam Nolan, Barbara Rollison, Peg and Jim Morton, Lt. Gov. Margaret Williams and Gary Williams, Judy and Clark Jones, Wanda Phillips, Mary Smallwood, Tracy Vaughn,George Felix, and Nancy Reynolds. Guests: Anjli Deven (Editor)and David Abraham (Treasurer) from the Lecanto H.S. Key Club.


Program: Our guests told us about their Key Club projects and their club. They have about 60 members. They had a beach clean up project and others planned.


Old Business: Donations for the Yard Sale may be brought to Raymond James one week prior to the event on Oct. 27. Time will be 8-2.
Wanda brought up an article in the paper from the Covenant Children’s Home. We also discussed a Kiwanis project which involved helping foster children who exit the foster children program.


New Business: Gary mentioned that we place an ad in the convention program. We passed “the hat” and collected enough for a 1/2 page ad ($125). The ad will mention Margaret’s year as Lt. Gov.
Wanda Phillips donated $50 towards bikes for the Boys and Girls Club.

July 12, 2018

The meeting was called to order by President Pam Nolan. Pledge of Allegiance was led by George Felix and Lynn Fonfara gave the invocation. Kiwanis mission was recited. Members attending were: Pam Nolan, Peg and Jim Morton, Dick Morton, Judy and Clark Jones, Lynn Fonfara, Wanda Phillips, Mary Smallwood, Tracy Vaughn, George Felix, and Nancy Reynolds.

Old Business: Speaker for July 19 will be Georgi Davis: “How did I get here?.” We will need speakers for future meetings. Peg suggested Habitat for Humanity and Guardian Ad Litem…Nov. is suggested date for GAL so we can award the donation. As of May we had about $80+. Clark and Judy had a few suggestions for speakers…a realtor who is connected to an organization that welcomes home Veterans; Clark’s sister who wrote books; and brother who has a stamp collection.
On July 24th, Tues., Lynn’s church will hold a Bunco party hat the Ascension Lutheran Church in Ocala from 6-8 p.m. if anyone would like to attend. Cost is $5.00. Date suggested for our Bunco party is Sept. 14.
Delegates to the convention will be Kathy McAvoy, Barbara Rollison, and Pam Nolan.

Pam will arrange with Sunflower to have a meeting there for Gerri’s birthday in October.


New Business: July 31st is the Key Training Center Run for the Money Telethon. Volunteers are needed to man the phones.
