February 21 the recommendation from the Board to use the funds raised in memory of Trevor Seconi for a sponsorship for Field Day was approved by the Club.

A few tips from a longer presentation –

Life, accidents, injuries, and so forth change our bodies from what we had as toddlers to what we have today. As toddlers, we have core strength, which gives way to our use of our legs and arms. We should let core muscles to their job.

If a motion doesn’t hurt, we are probably doing it right.

Muscles need to relax as well as tighten, so the flapping of our upper arms when we are relaxed is normal.

Don’t lock your knees; hold them softly.

Discussion notes

Last minute for Parking at Manatee Festival

Discussion of Kiwanis Day at the Rays, June 16; $23; Parking $16 per car if paid in advance; Club gets $5 back on each ticket; goal 20 tickets.

A new banner must come from Kiwanis International Store; $285 for polyester, $299 for felt

A discussion of meeting place was triggered by the temporary closure of Oysters. By unanimous vote, we will meet at the Plantation every week. A side room will be available most weeks.

Ideas for speakers were listed: DAR (Daughters of the Revolution), Nancy has some ideas, Pam has a contact.

Program: Decisions and news

After several weeks of discussion, the consensus is to not do another Bunco night. Peg will cancel the reservation at the American Legion.

Jim reported on plans for the Manatee Festival Parking at the Century 21 office. A sign-up sheet was passed. Lecanto Key Clubbers have been asked to assist. Crystal River Key Club will do parking at Brannen Bank next door. January 19-20, 9a-6p, including set up and tear down. Lynn will get a certificate of insurance for Century 21.

We passed the hat for Trevor, former president of the Inverness Club, to show our support as Kiwanians.

Gary reported on a meeting he and Margaret attended regarding Kiwanis branding and licensing. We spent some time discussing the implications of this. The following is from the Kiwanis International website.  https://www.kiwanis.org/clubs/member-resources/logos/licensing-and-registered-trademarks

Kiwanis International has been helping children for 104 years. We do this by providing services to children who need them most, and by working with youth programs to instill the benefits of volunteer service while providing youth leadership opportunities.   

It’s important to make sure our brand and trademarks are used properly. That’s why Kiwanis requires vendors to obtain a license when they prepare products for your club with any Kiwanis family logo. Licensing vendors helps protect our brand, ensuring that we will be here to help children and provide continued opportunities to our youth programs for years to come.  

To improve the protection of Kiwanis trademarks while still allowing latitude for Kiwanis family members to use the marks, the Kiwanis International Board revised the “Use of Name of Emblem” Policy C., 4. in October 1992 to require that all merchandise that is:

Marked with a Kiwanis-family (Kiwanis, Key Club, Circle K, Builders Club, Kiwanis Kids, or Aktion Club) name or emblem, and Purchased or manufactured for resale.

Must be purchased exclusively from the Kiwanis International Family Store or from an official licensee authorized by Kiwanis International to manufacture, sell, or distribute merchandise bearing a Kiwanis-family emblem.

If your club purchases merchandise marked with a Kiwanis-family emblem, your supplier (or your Kiwanis organization) must have a license to produce and sell these items.

Our partner Affinity Consultants is managing all of our vendors, making sure they are licensed and are properly using our logo and wordmark on promotional merchandise.

Program: Fundraisers and budget

Notes

Income from dues does not cover all expenses. We need successful fundraisers, and to re-evaluate how we plan to spend the income we have. For example, scholarships help two students, while Builders Club etc help many children.

Peg will investigate parking at the Insurance Agency near the bank for the Manatee Festival January 21

Clark spoke with the Chamber of Commerce and has tentative approval for a mini-golf and bucket toss game. Application needs to be done on line. $105

The installation was done with Peg and Margaret Williams, past LTG. Lynn did the pinning, and Peg gave the name badge.

Event notes

Tracy updated us on the status of our participation in the Manatee Festival, Jan 19 8am. Our proposals for food ordering ahead of time, and for charging a fee for assisting vendors with set-up have not been accepted. Those things “have never been done before.” Clark offered to talk with the Chamber staff and see what he can do. (Note: this is also a bowling date)

The Aktion Club (Dunnellon) Christmas Party will be Dec 18 at 5pm at First Presbyterian Church, 20641 Chestnut St, Dunnellon, FL 34431. Wish lists were distributed. Gifts should be $15 or less.

The next DCM is the Governor’s Visit; December 7 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 200 Mt Fair, Brooksville. 6pm, $25.

The Club Christmas Party will be Dec 20 at our usual meeting time. A gift to swap, $15 or less.

The next Board meeting is Dec 20 at 11am.

Weekly notes for November 15

Program: __Board meeting review__

Treasurer’s Report: Administrative account balance: $5277; Service $2851. The Dragon Boat Festival income is $55

Kiwanis Day with the Rays: there is a proposal to get as many Kiwanians as possible to the game some day in June. Hoping for SLP attendance as well. Entrance $23. More info to come.

Dunnellon Aktion Club Christmas party: the members will identify a gift suggestion, Kiwanians will choose one or more persons to buy gifts for. Wrapped is helpful but not essential.

There was significant discussion about 2 proposals – Valentines and Manatee Festival

    1)    Kiwanis Heartfelt Valentines, a dinner for two or more Kiwanians and guests from each Club in the Division. Suggestions are needed for venues in the center of the Division. 

    2)    The Manatee Festival January 19-20. In the past we have cooked and served food. There is a suggestion that we offer a couple of games for children to play. Lecanto Key Club will be asked about assembling vendor booths. (Note: they are excited to do this!) 

    3)    Nancy is working on the Mini Grant Application.

    4)    Become a Sustaining Member. Go to http://floridakiwanisfoundation.org/ , click on Donate Now, enter Kiwanis Club of West Citrus and your information. Click Donate Now and you will be taken to the payment page. (Note that there are a couple of links that do not work. The one I have outlined worked for me today.)

Event notes: Club Christmas Party will be December 20. Wrapped gender neutral gift to share, $10 or so. As in the past, it will be a “Yankee Swap”.

People notes: Gary and Margaret were taking turns caring for a sick Garrett.
