Meeting Notes January 2024

Program was vote to be a 3-2-1 club which passed unanimously.
Admin.  Balance  $3,593.20    Service $2,839.54
We need more members to meet the 15 member quota.
Lecanto and Crystal River Key Clubs need to pay dues.
Builders Club at Lecanto has some projects but troublevwith meetings due to school issues.
Aktion Club is meeting. Next Meeting Jan. 23
Some members will attend Dade City Club 100 year celebration Jan. 18.
Lynn will investigate renewing our bowling with Key Center.
We will have members attend Key Center parent meetings at Angelotti’s. Dates TBD
Feb.—Board Meeting will be at Los Mayegues in Beverly Hills. Feb.9, 3/8 12:30.
Social Meeting Feb. 14….Valentines.
Service: Jim checking with Maggie.
March—board meeting Mar. 8, 12:30, Los Mayegues.
Social March 13….st. Patrick’s Day
Service: Homosassa Easter Hunt
Provide basket for Masaryktown Chili Cook off-March 3-10.

Meeting October 11, 2023

  • President Lynn Fonfara called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. Attending were 11 members and 2 guests. 

Guests were District 8 Lt. Gov. , Melissa Ajmi and Key Club Lt. Gov, Susan Drawdy from Lecanto High School.

  • Melissa Ajmi conducted the installation of officers. Installed were:

Directors- Mike Fonfara and Barbara Rollison

President-Lynn Fonfara

Secretary-Nancy Reynolds

Treasurer- Jim Morton

Pres. Elect-Pam Nolan.

  • Barbara Rollison was named Kiwanian of the Year for here tireless participation in Kiwanis at all levels.

Jim reported that Field Day has been moved to Thurs. , Nov. 9. Progressing on schedule. If you will be attending Field Day arrive at approx. 9:30. Please send your name and birthdate to Jim @ email….Ashlinmorgans@gmail.com. This is needed to get you registered through Crystal River High School.

  • Maggie reported success with fundraising and she is working on more. Some gift certificates have been given. She is looking for Field Day sponsors. Our fundraiser “auction” has been postponed till spring.
  • Melissa Ajmi requested that anyone who would like to work with her as a membership chair would receive training from Kiwanis.
  • SLPs—Sasha reported that she is eager to work. There will be the KCKC conference on Oct 21 at Freedom HS in Tampa.   Aktion Club had 4 members attending.
  • Outing to Homosassa Park was postponed.
  • We are planning to assist the Homosassa Civic Club with goody bags for children for kids attending a Santa event to be held at Heritage Park in Homosassa on Dec, 2. Please donate useful type items for children such as pencils, Magic Towels, Fun, but useful…not candy. We might also help at Trunk or Treat at the Civic Club (across from Homosassa Elementary ) on Oct. 28. 5-7 p.m. contact Jessica McRae

Meeting at Oysters called to order by Pres. Lynn @6pm.

Lynn briefed us on minutes written by Maggie. Barbara R. Made a motion to accept minutes; seconded by Peg M.
Field Day: scheduled for Nov. 3. Asking that anyone who has a previous T-shirt to wear their shirt. Trying to cut down on number of shirts purchased. Medals have been purchased and previous inventory counted. Committee will possibly meet later this month.
SLPs: we still need a District  Key Club  Lt. Gov.
           Aktion Club has been reinstated. Working on adding members. Next Meeting is Tues., Sept. 26.
          
Social Events: 1. Mike F. Is arranging a trip to St. Augustine Jan. 11-13. Other Kiwanis Clubs in the District  may  attend, but will need to make their own reservations.
2. Homosassa Wildlife Park on a Sat. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. meet at the Fishbowl Drive entrance.  Cost is $12-13….(park prices may go up). Date Oct. 21 (? Sorry…I wrote down 21 but not the month! Oct. was only month that fit) will be confirmed. Let Mike know if you plan to attend.
Calendar:  DCon 8/17-20. Omni, Orlando-Fl. District Convention. Barbara and Pam are delegates. division requested $50 for DCON in addition to the $250 District wanted for Caring Corner. Donation handled request.
DCM -Division meeting sponsored by Inverness Club. Angelotti’s 9/5 @6p.m.
Next Club Meeting: Sept. 13
Our club will sponsor DCM after 1st of the year.

Meeting May 10, 2023

 

President Lynn called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
Our speaker was Ms. FAJARDO  media specialist from Crystal River Middle School. She told us about the modern day school library and the book selection process used by Citrus County in light of some of the changes made by the state. Their library is state of the art including robotics!
Nathaniel Jester, the Lt. gov. For Key Clubs in our division, attended the meeting and requested funding from our club for him to attend the International Key Club convention in Anaheim. He is a sophomore so his attendance would be of value. Mike Fonfara made a motion to fund him a minimum of $250 toward his goal. $250 would come from our service budget and members may contribute more. Motion was seconded and passed. He will solicit funds from other clubs in the District. 
We will have a fundraiser event at the American Legion on May 20. Arrive 8:00. Bring yard sale items.
Election of Officers for 2023-24: Lynn Fonfara, Pres.; Pam Nolan , VP; Jim Morton, Treas.; Nancy Reynolds, Sec.. Board of Directors, Mike Fonfara; 2  more are needed.

Meeting Notes for March 14

 Our last meeting was held at Oysters in Crystal River on  March 14.  We will return to the schedule of  2nd Wed. of the month.  April 12 will be the next meeting and we will now meet at Oysters on a continuing basis.  Our guests were LT. Gov. and his friend Dave; and Megan Smith from the Ed. Foundation who plans to be a new member and Jess Swain became a new member!

Seven members attended.

Discussion of the SLPs.  Builders Club is meeting and is sponsored by Elizabeth Ladkani at LMS.  We will present a flyer at a Key Training Center meeting  to try to regain interest in the Aktion Club of Dunnellon. K-Kids will be suspended.

We plan to have a garage sale at the Am. Legion on April 29 (Hwy 41 -Dunnellon).  Times will be : arrive 9:00 a.m., greet public 10:00 am and possibly end at 1 or 2 pm.

Program:  Lynn reminded us of what categories of service count as volunteer hours.  Volunteer hours must be connected to a Kiwanis event or project.

Meeting Notes for February 1, 2023

 The meeting was called to order by President Lynn with 7 members and 1 guest attending.

Our program was practicing scenarios of possible new members and what you would plan to say to them regarding club activities, International, and possible objections to joining.  We brainstormed how we might approach some potential new members. (Ed. Note: practice makes Perfect).

Jessica reported on status of Crystal River Key Club, their role in DCON, and also possibility of LHS officer participation in DCON. Reminder that fees  are paid. 1/3 student, 1/3 club, and 1/3 Key Club.
Fundraising: we are planning to try to use American Legion in March for “Flea Market”.
Dunnellon site did not work out.
March Meeting:  Meeting date had to be changed. Tentative date is March 14, Tues. Location TBA.  Lynn will notify membership.

Meeting Notes for September 14

 

Kiwanis Club of West Citrus


Present: Members: Rebecca, Jim, Pam, Gary, Margaret, Nancy, Barbara, Peg, Mike, Suzanne, Lynn.

Guests: Steve Wilson, Division 8 Lt Governor; Erin Sellers, Key Club Lt Governor; Bert Eno; Wyatt

We met for the first time at BubbaQues in Crystal River. The food was excellent, but we noticed it was quite noisy for part of our time together. We will find ways to manage the meeting in the future to take into account the noise level.

New officers were installed by Lt Governor Steve Wilson: President Lynn Fonfara; President Elect Gary Williams; Secretary Mike Fonfara; Treasurer Jim Morton.
