March 17, 2022, Meeting Notes

Meeting notes were emailed and posted to the website

Treasurer’s report balances: A $3270; S $4154

With service account funds and individual donations, we were able to give $1800 to the Crystal River Key Club to attend their District Convention. $300 was spent and reimbursed for the laundry units for a homeless family.

Margaret and Lynn have been in touch with our Key Clubs, both are doing well with services projects despite the COVID restrictions that limit in-person contact. Lecanto is unable to send anyone to DCon because of a scheduling conflict (Prom!)

Gary reported there is a Field Day planning meeting 3/21

Discussion of fundraiser – to sell food, like strawberry shortcake, we need a food certificate, which we don’t / can’t have.

Suggestion of a rummage sale and location – Margaret will check into the Crystal River First Friday event. This puts us downtown, in contact with many people.

The DCM is March 31, at the Greater Hernando Chamber of Commerce, Aviation Way, Brooksville. Social at 6p, meeting to start at 6:30.

On-going collections of school supplies for the school district, and cereal for Boys and Girls Clubs.

02 24 2022 Meeting Notes

Kiwanis Club of West Citrus

Present: Mike, Nancy, Jim, Peg, Gary, Barbara, Pam, Lynn

This specially called meeting was devoted to the matter of financial support for the Crystal River High School youth and adults going to Key Club District Convention (DCon). There was a request for assistance, because a large number of students wish to attend to support a Club member running for Lt Governor.

Our financial status, due to a lack of fundraisers during COVID, means we will not be able to give the usual scholarships to students at the high schools, but it is important to help the Key Club with expenses.

A motion was made to give $500 to the Key Club, supplemented by individual donations from members, bringing the total to approximately $1,000. This was M/S/C.

It was agreed we need a policy to specify how much support we will give in the future. In the past, the Kiwanis Club has paid the expenses for the Key Club Faculty Advisor.

Discussion turned to a proposal for a fundraiser on April 9 for a strawberry shortcake booth at Dunnellon Boom Town Days. There was consensus to support this.

Lynn Fonfara,

Secretary

Meeting Notes February 17, 2022

Present: Peg, Jim, Tracy, Nancy, Robin, Margaret, Gary, Rebecca, Barbara, Lynn

Guest: Nichelle Mohre-Cassidy, Citrus Student Services

In an email and phone vote last week, the Club agreed to purchase a washer and dryer for a family in need, using Service Account funds. In addition, Jim was present to assist with delivery and installation of the units. If you have not yet given toward the cost of the laundry units, the amount is $30/member.

Guest speaker Nichelle thanked the Club for our support of students experiencing homelessness through purchase of a laundry set. There are almost 700 families without homes at the moment. She explained the challenged people face finding affordable housing: rent is high and available houses/ apartments are hard to find; it’s hard to find land to park a camper; so … many resort to living in tents in the woods.  She collects toiletries, school supplies, and clothing to distribute throughout the district. We discussed ways in which we could partner with her in the future.

Collections of tissues and school supplies for teachers, and cereal for Boys and Girls Clubs continue.

Gary reported the planning team decided to postpone Field Day until the fall, perhaps October.

Nothing is happening with bowling.

Builders Club at LMS should be able to start soon, but K Kids is not yet ready to meet due to Covid. Because of Covid, the Aktion club is not able to meet.
